Oh my god, I saw Willie Nelson at the Napa Opera House last night and I now put him in the same league with Bob Marley and Janis Joplin both of whom I’ve seen: Brilliant light beings. There are many others in this club like the Grateful Dead, Harry Belafonte and Abbie Lincoln, Brian Wilson and Nina Simone , B.B.King and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

These are merely people I’ve seen, so I leave the rest up to you….Right now, Willie tops my list.  Like a wizened old Oak or a long time friend, someone who speaks deeply and personally… thank you Willie.

His guitar playing is unique and requires the almost march beat of the snare drum and sassiness of the pineapple shaker. His sister on honytonk piano is a graceful and complimetary presence in the Family Band..

I’ve found myself overcome with emotion while watching this 2008 Olympic games quite a few times for different reasons, but never so much as just now watching a 38 yr old woman run her victory lap of the marathon in the Beijing Birds’ Nest to the roar of the crowd. As a solo singer/guitarist songwriter I can really relate to the loneliness of the long distance runner. There is so much competition out there but if one continues to do what one loves, she will run ahead of the pack with her own personal best.
